The Szmutni’s are relatively new to Arizona and Green Valley. They moved here almost 3 yrs ago. They were looking for a kinder, and a
slower way of living.
Esther’s hobbies are gardening, designing jewelry and tending to her 2 dogs, Foster and Molly. Esther is a born “busy bee”, who enjoys
her friends and helping people.
Esther is a Respiratory Therapist, certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care and licensed the State of Arizona.
She received most of her professional experiences in busy hospitals in Los Angeles.
Before she left California, she was a lead Acute Care Respiratory Therapist in the Sherman Oaks Hospital / Grossman Burn Center. She
also worked for different Health Staffing Agencies and a private pulmonary rehabilitation office.
Being certified by the American Association of Respiratory Care as an Acute Adult Care Specialist enabled her to work with the critically ill
adult population. This meant working in hospitals’ Intensive Care Units, operating invasive and non-invasive breathing machines
(ventilators) and all modalities of respiratory care.
Esther's knowledge and complex experiences help her remedy the unexpected.
After moving to Green Valley, Esther’s natural choice was to work for the University Medical Center in Tucson. She wanted to experience
the busy and cutting edge environment she was used to.
Two years ago, Esther was also diagnosed with borderline COPD, after she conducted her own Pulmonary Function Test on herself, as
part of a hospital evaluation experience. This discovery started an intense research process and a serious interest in the subject of
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Today she is not only an experienced Respiratory Therapist, but also a Certified COPD Specialist by the American Lung Association of
Arizona. Esther is an active member of the American Lung Association’s COPD Coalition. She is also an ALA certified COPD lecturer.
This affiliation took Esther to the local Better Breathers of Green Valley Support Group, where she did occasionally gave lectures on how
to live with and manage COPD and it’s symptoms. Currently, she is the leader of the group, which is a patient oriented community
volunteer based support group.
Being encouraged by patients, doctors, health professionals and leaders of her community, she decided to start a service for COPD
sufferers. She knows that she can fill the void in COPD rehabilitation and help people.
She will consult, assess, rehabilitate and educate her patients. Sessions are available in a one on one, or small group basis. Her fees are
very affordable; she understands budget issues in everyone’s life.
Her new office, Sonora Lung C.A.R.E. opened a well-deserved local rehabilitation service for many.
Sonora Lung C.A.R.E., with Esther’s knowledge, experiences, understanding and compassion, is a great addition for Green Valley’s
medical services and for the population, who suffer from chronic lung diseases like COPD.
